Unit 10

  1. Review your unit 3 personal assessment of your psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. Reflect on these areas . How did you score yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 in unit 3? How do you score yourself now? Has the score changed? Why or why not?
  2. Review the goals and activities you set for yourself in each area. Have you made progress toward the goals? Explain.
  3. Have you implemented the activities you chose for your well-being in each of the three areas? Explain.
  4. Summarize your personal experience throughout this course. Have you developed improved well-being? What has been rewarding? What has been difficult? How will this experience improve your ability to assist others?

In my personal assessment from unit 3 I rated myself  physically 5, psychologically 7 and spiritually 7. I originally felt like I made progress in these areas but needed more development. I rated myself so low physically because I was not exercising at the time. I love to exercise but sometimes life experiences get in the way. I am very active in my everyday life. I ride bikes, I play games with kids, and I walk with my husband.
I now score myself as 8 spiritually. 8 psychologically and still a 5 physically. Because I have not started going to the gym as of yet. I love the gym and I just do not feel like I am doing enough when I am not going to the gym. Psychologically and spiritually I  have raised the bar but it is still more to do.

I have made progress with my goals. My spiritual goal to study more I do that. Psychologically to do mind exercises and read more I am doing it. Physically to exercise at 6am I have not started as of yet.

My whole experience in this class has been unique. I have learned how to develop myself in ways I did not think about. Visualization for example is a way to ignite focus and diligence and maintain it. I found it very difficult to do the exercise as I do not believe in these types of exercises. I do have my own meditation where I focus on God and his word. This has been very rewarding for me. This class has also improved my ability to work and assist others through understanding that their are different ways to approach clients.

Unit 9

I. Introduction: Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?
II. Assessment: How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically?
III. Goal development: List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.
IV. Practices for personal health: What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example.
V. Commitment: How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices

Introduction:
It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically for the patients. How can we guide someone on a path we have never been on? It will be a different experience but the same rules will apply. As a Health care professional our experience will speak to our clients through our convictions. If I am convinced I can convince others.

I need improvement in all three areas but I would focus on physically. Physically I am not where I want to be. It is challenging to find the time to exercise like I want to. One goal I have for myself is being able to instruct exercise classes. I was there, but my consistency was not. I am currently working on this goal because it is my desire to help others get physically fit and in good health.

Assessment:
Assessing my health in each domain is critical to accomplishing my goals. If I do not know where I am how will I know what to do to get to where I want to be? I have assessed myself and I have discovered that I am on the right track, I have made a lot of progressed and I just need to stay consistent. Spiritually I have flourished to the point that my spiritual connection guides my life and brings me health. I would rate myself at an 8 because no matter good you are you can always improve. Psychologically I have leaped in the right direction. I rate myself at a 6. I have more control over my actions. I make intentional decisions to better my life. I am not controlled by my emotions and I have gained control over the chattering mind. I do not just react but I have a subtle mind that moves into calm abiding, knowing where my emotions are and understanding how to proceed. Physically I have a strong desire to exercise and eat right. I rate myself at a 5. I

know what to do and I have made preparations to do so. I just moved so I am looking for
a good gym to join. In the mean time I have a great path to walk and so I do. I said I would start to take me time and exercise 30 minutes 3 times a week. I have started and I feel great.

Goal development:
Goals I have set for myself would include physically being able to instruct an exercise class. Psychologically developing my organizational skills to develop organized children. Also to intellectually grow, understanding more and on a greater level. Spiritually to come closer to my maker and being more like him every day.

Practices for personal health:
How I plan to achieve my goals. Physically through 30 minutes of working out 3 times a week, Walking and running, lifting weights 2 times a week and joining an exercise class. Spiritually meditating everyday in the word of God and seeking to understand God better through practicing his values showing love to everyone. Psychologically developing my organizational skills through mind exercises reading, and listening to experts on organization.

Commitment:
I am committed to accomplishing my goals. In the next six months I will reassess myself by jotting down my goals and posting them. In six months I will look at the progress I have made or lack of progress. Then I will reevaluate each goal and make new ones according to the point I have made it to. Realizing that if I have made progress I should still applaud myself and go on.

Unit 8

The two exercises I enjoyed the most would be practicing loving kindness and meditation. Practicing loving kindness is apart of my everyday life. What is so amazing about it is it not only makes others feel better it makes you feel better s well. I have learned through techniques like forgiveness is not for the other person as much as it is for you. There is a natural and physical healing that takes place when kind and loving thoughts overtake your mind. It is an inner peace that I cannot explain. Meditation causes fulfillment on another level. As I spend quite time with God meditating on His word I come closer with my maker, the one who loves me the most. It is through my connection with God that I am able to practice loving kindness and obtain peace of mind. My daily practice of these two exercises cause my mind to be fit, alert and sharp. Having control over my responses and actions.

Unit 7

  1. The Meeting Aesclepius mp3 (located in the Doc Sharing area). Describe your meditative practices for the week and discuss the experience. Explain how mindfulness or meditation has fostered an increase in your psychological or spiritual wellness. How can you continue to apply these practices in your life to foster greater health and wellness?
  2. Describe the saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" (p.477). How does this apply to the health and wellness professional? Do you have an obligation to your clients to be developing your health psychologically, physically, and spiritually? Why ow can you implement psychological and spiritual growth in your personal life?
When I think of a mentor or visualize a light I think of Christ. He is my direction, my example, and light. This is how I meditate. I think on God and his word. I understand more about life and my purpose when I meditate. It is through knowing my purpose that life makes sense to me. I will continue to meditate and I encourage other to do the same.

"One cannot lead another where one has not gone" I describe this saying by giving and example of it. If I encounter someone who is struggling with drugs I can give them great tips on getting free from drugs based off of book knowledge but not experience. If you have not experienced it then you really do not know how they feel and cannot relate to their struggle. If you have never been addicted to anything and now free from it how can you lead someone to freedom. I cannot lead you to freedom if I have never been there. As a professional I have an obligation to practice what I preach for example. There is a confidence that comes when you know from experience and not just book knowledge.

Unit 6

  1. Practice the universal Loving Kindness (meditation) exercise on p. 93.
  2. Complete the Integral Assessment discussed in chapter 11 (p.115).
  3. Describe the exercise and assessment process. What did you discover about yourself? What area have you chosen to be a focus of growth and development? Why? What are some specific exercises or activities that you can implement to foster greater wellness in this area?
The loving kindness exercise I already practice. I make it a point to pray for others, encourage, forgive, and help those whom I come in contact with. I do for people I see an do not see. The integral assessment is taking an inventory of the areas of your life and making a determination of what needs attention Dacher (2009). I would begin by looking at what makes me feel sad, angry, afraid, frustrated, worried, and feel inadequate. As I examine these areas I look at nutrition, exercise, my mind, and spiritual aspects of my life. In my life I have discovered that I need to focus on my mind. I know what to do. Focus is my issue. I will concentrate on activities such as visualization. I will write down or place pictures on the wall to keep the goal in focus. The more I see it, it will keep me focus on accomplishing goals.

Unit 5

The subtle mind exercise while breathing exercises can be relaxing I did not find this exercise to be relaxing. I am just not into this type of meditation. The loving kindness exercise I practice everyday. Thinking good of others has proven to be good for my health.

I do not separate my spiritual health from my physical or mental health. I believe they are all connected.  can not separate them. When I am doing well spiritually it effects my physical and mental well being.

Unit 4

  1. Describe your experience. Did you find it beneficial? Difficult? Why or why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or why not?
  2. What is the concept of "mental workout"? What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a mental workout? How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health?
My experience with the love and kindness exercise was weird and difficult. Although it is nice to think about someone special in a loving and caring way, I did not feel it necessary, nor did I agree with taking in someones pain and distress. This part was very weird. I tried my best to experience the exercise but the whole taking in darkness destroyed it for me. I would not recommend this to anyone. I do not think it would help anyone.

The concept of mental workout is the act of mind training. Developing and controlling the mind through exercises like visualization, meditation, and prayer. Research shows that exercises for the mind like practicing loving kindness increased the abilities of the mind. According to Antoine Lutz a compassionate mental state caused a higher order of mental integration (2006). I can foster psychological health by practicing loving kindness and forgiving others.

Unit 3

How I rate my physical well being 5, spiritual well being 7and psychological well being 7. I rate myself this way because as I develop my spiritual wellness it is affecting a change in my psychological and physical well being. I have not been working out as I should so I rated myself as a 5.
A goal for myself is to develop an exercise plan that works for me. I will start 6am workouts. Spiritually to spend more time studying in the word of God 4am study time and psychologically to continue mind training and develop my mind on a greater level. Reading a book once a week.

The relaxation exercise is not easy for me. I did not like the idea of focusing on colors. The overall idea of this exercise is relaxing but not easy for me.

Hello Everyone Welcome to New Life

Hello everyone I would like to welcome you to my world. As I look at life's challenges I discovered that their is a better way to handle them. I am taking control of my thought process and meditating on what is more important. I meditate on what things are lovely, just, good, honest, faithful and pure. These are the things I think on and because I do my life has changed. I am not stressed. I am more focused then ever before. My life has changed for the better and I am loving it. In the relaxation process what I meditate on is very important and is what makes the difference.
